GMC Sierra Multi-Pro Tailgate Bend Repair
Here I do a quick repair on our 2023 GMC Sierra Multi-Pro Tailgate that got bent with some shifting cargo
Summary:
A while back we had some shifting cargo fall on the Multi-Pro tailgate on our GMC Sierra HD. Here I show to I fixed this with very little effort. Note some items below are links to Amazon products – if you’d like to support my efforts, you can do so at no cost to you by buying through these links for items you already might need to purchase.
Parts:
- (none – note a new inner tailgate was fairly pricey, so saved some $$’s!)
Tools:
- Dewalt Cordless Drill Driver Kit
- Various bits (Phillips, regular, Torx, square, etc.)
- Claw Hammer
- Straight Edge (I used my framing square)
- Wood Block
- Rock (or something heavy!)
Detailed Description:
- Start by scoping out exactly what you’ll need for your project.
- Mostly just gather a few tools as noted above.
- Remove the trim piece from the inner tailgate – should be T25 Torx.
- Remove the folding step – 6-10mm bolts for the hinges and 4-10mm for the end supports.
- Folding the inner tailgate back in, I added some weight to keep the tailgate flat.
- At this point I took a close look at the damage – in my case the bend was on one end of the inner tailgate, roughly a 1/4″ bend.
- Taking a 2×4 and hammer, I was able to pound it gently back into place.
- Verify with your straight edge that things look OK.
- Reassemble everything and test for proper functioning.
- Check this one off your list!! 8^)
