DeWalt 18″ 60V Max Chainsaw Review

Here I run through the components of our electric chainsaw from DeWalt, model DCCS672

Review

We had a few trees needing cut down on our property, and our old gas/oil chainsaw just wasn’t cutting it anymore (ha!). As such, we decided to get a new electric chainsaw from DeWalt – here’s a rundown of what we purchased.

The 18″ Dewalt 60V Max chainsaw, model DCCS627, has the following features. Note we purchased ours without a battery, so we had to purchase one separately (we got a 6 AH version).

  • The unit comes with a chain/bar cover
  • The trigger safety is right by your thumb, keeping the unit from accidentally starting
  • The typical chain brake is located in front of the main handle
  • A wrench is included for changing and tightening the chain
  • To change the tension on the chain, simply loosen the two nuts on the side, then use the provided wrench to change the tension, which should give about a 1/4″ of play when pulling up on the chain
  • Bar and chain oil goes in the side of the unit

Really not a whole lot to these – if you’ve used a chainsaw before, this is really no different. First thing we used this for was to cut down a dead maple tree in our yard – it was about 20′ high with a diameter of roughly 1′. Used up the whole 6 AH battery, but before the battery died, the tree was on the ground, fully limbed and trunk cut into 18″ chunks. Bottom line, I give this 5 out of 5 stars, as it seems to be well thought out, well built, and works great. I do recommend it, so if you’re looking to buy and would like to support my efforts, you can find one here:
