Toilet Flapper Valve Replacement
Here I run through the replacement of a flapper valve on one of our toilets
Summary:
Every once in a while you have a problem with one of those household items you never even think about. Today was one of those days – we had a flapper valve on one of our toilets fail. Basically the plastic/rubber “chain” from the valve to the handle broke. As such, we ran out and grabbed a new one to get it installed. A pretty simple job, but find more details below. Detailed Description:
- Once you discover the problem, you need to get a new valve that matches the one you have – they have 2″ and 3″ versions out there, so just make sure you get the right size
- Once you open up the tank, shut the valve of and flush the toilet to drain the tank – you’ll probably have to hold the valve up to get all the water out
- Remove the old flapper valve by gently prying out on the valve ears and removing the handle connection
- The new one goes on in reverse – it’s amazing how simple they’ve made these!
- Then connect the chain from the valve up to the handle
- Now turn the water back on and see if the tank fills properly and holds water
- The Korky valve is adjustable, so turn the water back off and flush
- Verify the flushed level looks good, or make any needed adjustments per the instructions
- Turn the water back on and run a couple test flushes to be sure all is well
- And…that’s it!
