Description:

Once you get under the hood and have your nitrile gloves on (these are usually halogen bulbs, so you don’t want your fingerprints on them, as it can shorten the bulb life) locate on the passenger side where the headlight compartment is, then pull out the headlight bulb connector – should come off with just a little force. Then remove the rubber weather boot that surrounds the bulb. Now you can locate the bulb inside the compartment – you’ll see there’s a retention bale – press in on the passenger side of this bale and it should release. Now you can remove the bulb.

Now grab the new bulb and insert it into the compartment with the center conductor up – the bulb is keyed so will only fully insert in one direction. Replace the bale across the back of the bulb by holding the bulb in place with one hand and moving the bale over and reconnecting it on the other side. Replace the weather boot by gently pressing it into place, followed by reconnecting the headlight connector.

Over on the drivers side, the process is basically the same, though things get a bit tighter, so it can be a little more challenging. Note the loose end of the bale is also on the passenger side of the bulb. As a side note, I generally keep the one remaining “good” old bulb in my glovebox, just in case you have a failure out on the road somewhere. Until next time…!
