Pullrite 5th Wheel Hitch Bent Actuator Repair
Here I repair the actuator on my Pullrite 5th Wheel Hitch
Summary:
A while back we bent the actuator on our Pullrite 5th wheel hitch. Here I work to get it repaired and operational again. Note some items below are links to Amazon products – if you’d like to support my efforts, you can do so at no cost to you by buying through these links for items you already might need to purchase.
Parts:
- (none – note I did look for a replacement actuator on Pullrite’s website but didn’t find one, hence the repair)
Tools:
- Regular screw driver
- Clamps
- MIG Welder
- Hammer & Anvil (or something sturdy to pound on the bent actuator)
Detailed Description:
- Start by scoping out exactly what you’ll need for your project.
- Mostly just gather a few tools as noted above.
- Remove the hitch head and secure it on a workbench with the clamps.
- Remove the actuator by prying up the clip.
- I tried to bend the actuator out, but (not surprisingly) it broke of, so…
- I welded the pin on the end of the actuator back in place, adding a fair amount of weld as a backing fillet.
- Reassemble the hitch – here I tested with a mocked up hitch pin.
- Things seemed to work fine, so I put the head back on the hitch.
- Been camping a couple times and things are working OK.
- Check this one off your list!! 8^)
